This North Scottsdale Couples Session was a dream and a great example of why you need engagement photos. Honestly, this is going to be a good one!

Highlighting This North Scottsdale, Arizona Couple’s Session
Kyle and Somin’s North Scottsdale, Arizona Engagement Session was at the Gateway Trailhead at the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. If you know me, you know that I am a sucker for desert beauty, and I am no stranger to it. However, nothing could have prepared me for the incredible golden glow we were graced with!
I mean, can there ever be a sunset in the desert that disappoints? I don’t think so.
Kyle is from Minnesota and Somin is from South Korea. Both meeting in Arizona, the desert is where truly their love story begins. When Somin came to me, asking me to celebrate their love with a classic, Arizona desert session with cacti, I was ecstatic.
One of my favorite places to shoot in North Scottsdale is around the Gateway Trailhead which was the perfect spot and close to where Kyle and Somin live!
Their session was perfect, and I just adore them so much.

When it comes to wedding planning, I HIGHLY recommend an engagement session before your wedding day. It’s the time to get to know your wedding photographer, bond, & get comfortable with each other before the big day.
When you hire your photographer solely for your wedding day, it can take longer to get to know each other. It is better to see the photographer’s work style and get a feel for how they operate so you know if they are a good match.

Kyle and Somin never got engagements done before they got married. So, a couple of years later, all they have are their wedding photos. They love them, of course. However, all Somin really wanted the Arizona desert landscape for photos.
They have been together for over 5 years and married for about 3 years. When Kyle and Somin were planning their wedding, they were tight on the budget so they had a photographer come in for their wedding day and they decided to not do engagements beforehand.
Looking back, Somin said she 100% would get the engagement shoot with the wedding photographer.

Somin said it might have been just their photographer… But, since their wedding photographer didn’t know them, the experience didn’t seem very personal.
As an Arizona Wedding Photographer, I can not stress to my clients that engagements ARE important before the big day.
I promise that it’s not a just marketing scheme for us to make extra money.
In fact, a lot of us wedding photographers have packages where if you book the 8 or 10-hour wedding package, you get a local engagement session included. Meaning, we aren’t making any money off your engagement session!
I want all my clients to have engagement sessions for us to meet before.
I WANT TO GET TO KNOW YOU BEFORE YOUR WEDDING.
Getting to know your wedding photographer before your big day will relieve a lot of stress for you. It will also let you will feel more comfortable about posing and your photos will simply show it!
The more comfortable you are with your photographer, the more candid smiles and laughs you will generate.

Shooting in film is more an art form behind taking the photo vs shooting in digital. It has a timeless feel that is more authentic and raw in the moment vibes.
Film photography has gotten more attention over the last year giving clients a more editorial style feel. It is a different technique of shooting and lets us photographers slow down, get creative and enjoy the moment.
With Kyle and Somin it was fun being able to slow down with them, get genuine laughs and smiles and capture moments on film. Film is a priceless form of art I like to incorporate into my sessions to give clients another form of photos.
