If you’re dreaming of capturing the magic of Sedona’s red rocks in a couples session, Elise and Nick’s adventure at Cathedral Rock is the perfect inspiration. With its breathtaking landscapes and unforgettable sunsets, Sedona offers an iconic backdrop for couples looking to create lasting memories.

Elise and Nick have been together for over three years, and their love for adventure brought them to Sedona early in their relationship.
They originally planned to elope in Sedona last October, but life had other plans. A surprise wedding at a family friend’s home near Orange County, California, became their reality. However, Elise was determined to make their Sedona dream come true.
A year later, as newlyweds, they finally met up in Sedona to capture their love amidst the stunning red rocks.
One of the most breathtaking spots in Sedona for a couples session is Cathedral Rock.
The towering rock formations, combined with the serene desert atmosphere, create an ideal setting for romance and adventure. Whether you’re planning an elopement or a simple couples photoshoot, Cathedral Rock offers the perfect mix of natural beauty and intimate seclusion.
The couple’s connection to Sedona, their willingness to embrace the adventure, and the stunning landscape all came together to create truly magical photos.
Seriously, I can’t stop staring at them!

Sedona is less than a two-hour drive from the Phoenix area, making it an ideal location for a memorable road trip. During the spring and summer months, it’s just far enough north to provide a refreshing escape from the heat of the Phoenix Valley.
The Cathedral Rock hike is relatively short at 1.2 miles out and back, but don’t let the distance fool you—it’s more of a rock climb than a hike.
The trail includes steep sections where you’ll need to scramble over rocks, so come prepared with proper footwear. A few years ago, the trail was updated with stairs and a more defined path, making it a bit easier to navigate.
Cathedral Rock is one of Sedona’s most popular hiking spots, so timing is key to avoiding crowds.
During peak times, a shuttle service operates to transport visitors from a larger parking area to the trailhead. I recommend scheduling your session after the shuttle service has ended for the day, which usually happens around 5 PM.
This allows you to drive directly to the trailhead, avoid the crowds, and catch the stunning sunset at the top.
For Elise and Nick’s session, we met at the Cathedral Rock parking lot just after 5 PM. The sun was beginning to set, casting a warm glow over the red rocks and providing the perfect lighting for their photos.

As someone who loves the outdoors, Sedona holds a special place in my heart. The combination of red rocks, desert landscapes, and vibrant sunsets is truly captivating. Each session in Sedona is unique, offering a fresh perspective on this beautiful area.
If you’re planning a session in Sedona, Cathedral Rock is just the beginning.
