Annette Ambrose Photography, an Arizona-based photographer, shares a recent engagement session at Granite Mountain Trailhead.

Can you picture something for me? A dreamy desert landscape, the sun setting over endless saguaros, and two people completely in love.
Welcome to Sam and Pat’s magical engagement session at Granite Mountain Trailhead in North Scottsdale! If you’re looking for a spot that’s got all the desert charm with none of the crowds, this is your place.
When you Google “Granite Mountain Trailhead engagements,” you won’t find much. That’s because most people know North Scottsdale but don’t realize this gem exists within it. Nestled far north in Scottsdale, Granite Mountain offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle, making it perfect for a romantic, intimate engagement session.
The trail itself is a 5.5-mile loop, but don’t worry – you don’t have to hike the whole thing to get stunning shots. Just park in the trailhead lot, walk a few feet, and you’re surrounded by towering saguaros, dramatic boulders, and sweeping mountain views. It’s like having your own private slice of the desert!
Sam and Pat’s love story shines through every smile and laugh. These two were a joy to photograph – playful, warm, and utterly smitten with each other. Watching them interact was like witnessing a love story unfold in real time, and I couldn’t help but get swept up in their energy.
Romantic Seclusion: Far from the crowded spots, Granite Mountain Trailhead offers a peaceful setting for an intimate engagement session.
Stunning Scenery: The desert landscape here is unparalleled, with iconic saguaros, vast cactus fields, and signature Arizona boulders that give off a Joshua Tree vibe but with a unique, creamy desert twist.
Convenient Access: No need for a strenuous hike – park, walk a few feet, and you’re ready to shoot.
Breathtaking Views: From the mountain backdrop to the wild desert flora, every angle provides a picture-perfect moment.

When Sam and Pat first reached out, they were adamant about one thing: film photography.
“WE BOTH LOVE THE IDEA OF HAVING DESERT SCENERY FEATURED OFTEN IN OUR PHOTOS. THE WEDDING WILL BE INDOOR/OUTDOOR, AND WE LOVE THE VIEWS AT THE VENUE. WE WOULD ALSO BE INTERESTED IN HAVING SOME SHOTS TAKEN ON FILM IF THAT IS A SERVICE THAT YOU OFFER,” Sam wrote.
Of course, I was thrilled!
There’s something incredibly special about capturing moments on film. It adds a timeless, dreamy quality that digital can’t quite replicate. We spent the session chatting about our mutual love for film and snapping gorgeous portraits that feel straight out of a classic romance.

Sam and Pat’s engagement session was a desert dream come true. I can’t wait to capture their wedding at Gainey Ranch Golf Club this fall! For anyone considering an engagement session in Scottsdale, Granite Mountain Trailhead should be at the top of your list.
