Planning a destination wedding in Italy, particularly in the enchanting town of Positano on the Amalfi Coast, has been a dream come true.

The journey of planning such a significant event in such a picturesque location has taught me invaluable lessons, which I want to share with all future brides considering a similar path. Here’s my Bride 101 advice for those dreaming of a destination wedding in Italy.

The Journey to Positano: Our Engagement and Initial Planning

We got engaged on December 25th, 2023.

After a month of basking in the engagement bliss, I dove into researching potential venues in Italy. I reached out to countless venues, narrowing it down to the one I loved most. However, I quickly learned that patience is crucial in this process.

The hotel couldn’t reserve our date immediately because their 2025 wedding brochure and prices were unavailable.

By August 2024, we finally received the 2025 brochure, allowing us to book our wedding for May 2025. This timeline taught me the importance of flexibility and understanding that not everything will align with the typical U.S. wedding planning schedule.

Meeting the Wedding Coordinator

One of the most reassuring steps was visiting Positano in the spring with my sister.

We met the wedding coordinator in person, who soft-reserved our wedding date. This personal connection and the ability to see the venue firsthand provided immense peace of mind.

If possible, I highly recommend visiting your destination venue at least a year in advance.

Patience and Communication

Planning a wedding in a different country involves more coordination and patience, especially with communication. Vendors in Europe might not respond as quickly as those in the U.S., and that’s okay.

For example, our hotel won’t release rooms until October 2024.

I’ve advised our guests to be patient, ensuring them I’ll keep them informed when booking opens.

To streamline communication with guests, we use an app called “Text My Guests.”

This tool is fantastic for sending mass updates about the wedding, such as when hotel rooms become available.

Staying Organized

Organization is key to managing the myriad details involved in wedding planning.

I use Google Sheets for budgeting, tracking vendor details, and maintaining guest information. This platform allows me to easily share updates with my dad and future mother-in-law.

We chose our hotel for its all-inclusive package deals, location, and convenience.

Friends who opted for Airbnb or villa weddings had to manage vendors for everything, from tables to silverware. Our decision allows us to focus on enjoying the celebration with our guests.

Important Tips and Insights

ONE | Engagement Photos and Save the Dates:

We prioritized getting our engagement photos done and designed our save-the-dates. Once our date was confirmed, we were ready to print and send them out.

TWO | Research and Website:

We researched wedding photographers early and started a wedding website on The Knot. Wedding websites like The Knot, Zola, Joy, and Minted are free and customizable. After visiting Italy, I updated our website with travel details and photos, making it personal and informative for our guests.

THREE | Say Yes to the Dress:

Finding the perfect dress was a priority. This step added a personal and exciting touch to the planning process.

Next Steps for Planning Our Dream Destination Wedding

Finalizing the guest list, collecting addresses, ordering, and sending save the dates were crucial steps that kept us organized and on track.

Planning a destination wedding is filled with unique challenges and rewards. Remember, this is your day. Stay firm on your non-negotiables to avoid future regrets. This journey has been magical for my fiancé and me, bringing happy tears as our dream wedding comes together.

I hope these insights help future brides plan their dream destination wedding in Italy.
