Ever since moving my elopement photography business to Arizona, I have genuinely fallen in love with the Sedona area. Although I have spent a lot of time among the red rocks, I hadn’t had a chance to experience an Enchantment Resort Elopement until Lauren and Stuart’s surprise sunrise wedding. I will be the first to tell you that IT WAS INCREDIBLE.
GETTING TO KNOW THE COUPLE: LAUREN + STUART
Lauren and Stuart quickly became some of my favorite people of 2022. Both being raised in Texas, they have the perfect amount of southern hospitality and spice. Without a doubt, I loved every minute of their personalities!
Although they grew up in the “Lonestar State”, the couple has been living out west in Arizona for the last couple of years. We love desert transplants over here.
During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Lauren and Stuart got engaged in Sedona. Soon after, they welcomed the sweetest baby boy.
Having recently survived the financial struggles brought on by COVID, welcomed their son, and moved and renovated their home, they really didn’t want to spend a fortune on their wedding day. Honestly, it is completely understandable! To them, paying for a traditional wedding just wasn’t worth it since they have already devoted themselves to one another.
Instead, they opted for an Enchantment Resort Elopement in Sedona. The only preferences they had were that they wanted to experience the red rocks without a major hike!

THE SURPRISE WEDDING
Lauren and Stuart had both planned a trip with their families to Sedona. Their goal was to have an elopement as one big happy family together. The catch? No one by them knew that they were planning a surprise wedding that included everyone the following day!
All they told the family was that they were going to Sedona for a couple of nights and booked rooms at the Enchantment Resort. The plan was to get there Sunday night and surprise them at dinner that night. Their hope was to have a very small and short ceremony on Monday morning before it got too hot.
After everyone picked their jaws off of the floor, they all were ecstatic.
THE INTIMATE CEREMONY
For the ceremony, they said their vows at Enchantment Circle over-looking Boynton Canyon.
When I first met up with Lauren and Stuart, we started with portraits up Boynton Canyon for photos with the canyon overlook. Soon after, we met the family down at the resort where they had their ceremony and popped a bottle of celebratory champagne.

Boynton Canyon is about 6.1 miles out and back.
It is a popular hike that is mostly flat and attracts visitors wanting to explore Sedona’s red rocks.
There is a fee to park at the trailhead; you must purchase the Red Rock Pass per vehicle.
You can purchase on the spot online or online beforehand.
