Merry Go Round Rock in Sedona is a spectacular place for an adventure and your engagement session!
It is one of the top locations in Sedona for all adventure elopements and engagement sessions. The spectacular views and private hike make for PERFECT photos. It’s definitely a hike, but if you are up for strapping on your hiking boots, it is for sure worth it!

HOW DID THEY MEET?
Shawn and Rochelle met right after Rochelle finished grad school. She was looking for love and decided to rejoin Plenty of Fish, an online dating site! Apparently, it WORKS because Rochelle sent Shawn a “flirt” and the rest was history.
Now, five years later Rochelle reminisces about how Shawn has been with her through many ups and downs. Shawn celebrated their love by asking Rochelle to marry him surrounded by loved ones. This led them to their journey out west and their adventure engagement session at Merry Go Round Rock.
SHAWN AND ROCHELLE HEAD WEST TO MERRY GO ROUND ROCK
Shawn and Rochelle are both from New York and have not traveled out west often! Needless to say, I was so excited to show them the beautiful views you can only find in Sedona!
However, the views do not come without some trial!
You can, for sure, hike into Merry Go Round Rock. Just know, that you are in for a trek! We ended up opting to rent a big truck with big TIRES in order to get there.
Rochelle and Shawn were amazing through it all! Lucky for me, they LOVED THE ADVENTURE!
THE JOURNEY TO SEDONA’S MERRY GO ROUND ROCK
As an adventure photographer, I try to gauge my clients willingness for “off roading” by sending them a questionnaire! I want to make sure I have your best interest when planning your session.
Merry Go Round Rock is a BUMPY RIDE, and I do not say that lightly. The best way to get up there driving is by either renting a jeep or taking a guided tour.
TRANSPORTATION OPTIONS:
- Rent a Jeep or a car that has BIG lifted tires
- Hire a private tour guide or a private Pink Jeep Tour Guide
- Pink Jeep Tours (that aren’t private, with a group)
- Rent ATV’s
NOTE: If you get easily sick then hiking on Munds Wagon Trail (6.1 miles) is your best option. I will warn you though it usually takes about 3-4 hours one way while driving takes 30-45 mins.
To get up to Merry Go Round, you start on Schnebly Hill Road and just keep driving all the way up. There will be a stopping point at the top where all the Pink Jeep Tours stop. Merry Go Round is a popular tour guide for Pink Jeep Tours so their jeeps will be constantly driving on this road.
Make sure when planning your adventure you leave yourself enough time to drive up there, walk into the location and capture the most amazing photos.
